The town of Tolhuin is located in the central region of Tierra del Fuego and its name comes from a Selk'nam word, Tol-wen, which means "Heart".  
Forestry is the main activity here, and that fact is reflected in the architecture of the town's houses, built with lenga wood, a native tree. 
In the town's entrance there is a portico with wood sculptures inspired by the Selk'nam culture. The masks and symbols represent a ceremony known as "Hain", an initiation ritual held by the Selk'nam tribes. The memory of the natives is respected and honored all over Tolhuin, through art exhibitions such as Casa de la Cultura, where you can see sculptures carved in wood and masks made of tree bark. 

Wood sculpting is celebrated in a traditional event, the Lenga Festival, which is held every year in December.

Other spots to visit in Tolhuin are the Plaza Cívica, the Plazoleta Héroes de Malvinas, and the local artisans' fair.

Towards the head of Lake Fagnano, you will find the Kami Museum,  inaugurated in December 2011 in the building where an old Police Station used to be. 
Built in 1922 by the owner of the Arroyo ranch, Mr. Antonio Livacic, the place was the headquarters of the "Lago Kami" Police Station for several decades. It served as a control and communication point between the towns of Tolhuin, Río Grande and Ushuaia.
After being restored, the Kami Museum currently functions as an archive, dedicated to preserving the local history of the pioneers and native peoples, through the collection of testimonies of former settlers and their descendants.
